The Favona underground gold mine is located on the east coast of New Zealand’s north island.
We provided the full range of underground mining services including modern mechanised mining.
OceanaGold is a multinational gold and copper producer with operations in New Zealand, Philippines and the United States.
Our team was responsible for the development of the mine in 2004 with gold first being extracted in 2006 using the modified Avoca retreat long-hole benching method. This allowed Thiess to develop a strong understanding of operational requirements at Favona and continued to work closely with OceanaGold to deliver greater efficiencies and enhance product delivery.
We provided the full range of underground mining services including modern mechanised mining. Our operations included drill and blast, maintenance and transportation services.
