In 2018, new mine owner Coronado Global Resources Inc awarded Thiess a contract extension to continue to provide mining services at Curragh, including the operation and maintenance of the client-owned 1400 tonne electric rope shovel and ultra-class trucking fleet.
Thiess was awarded a subsequent six-year extension with the team continuing to provide overburden removal and haulage, mining and run of mine rehandling services, equipment maintenance and pit dewatering.
Now in our fifth successive contract at the mine, Thiess consistently meets production targets through operational excellence and a commitment to strong safety performance.
Thiess has driven outstanding productivity and safety at Curragh. Our Australia-first pairing of a fleet of T282C ultra class trucks with the client’s electric rope shovel has significantly improved efficiencies in production. Our operations have also been supported with strong leadership and reporting, ensuring the early identification and management of safety risks.
Thiess has also ensured workforce diversity and community engagement on this project. In July 2013, 10 Indigenous women from Rockhampton and Blackwater became the first graduates of our ‘Oothungs (sisters) in Mining’ program, kickstarting their careers at Curragh. In addition, our team has sponsored a series of healthy living events, raised funds for Angel Flight, and supported many local charities and sporting organisations.
