MASITE program invests in the future of Aboriginal people
Meet Wonnarua man Beajai Tudor. He recently joined our Mt Arthur team as trainee operator.
Beajai is one of six local trainees to be inducted as part of Thiess’ Mt Arthur South Indigenous Trainee Program (MASITE) this year.
Starting at the project in March, Beajai is excited to build his capabilities while learning from some of the industry’s best talent.
“I’m enjoying the responsibility of operating the big trucks and contributing to something bigger,” Beajai said.
“Everyone at Thiess has been really supportive. I’m learning from trainers who have over 20 years’ experience in the industry, are enthusiastic and really want us to succeed.”
“I’ve already been passed out on our Caterpillar 793’s and had the opportunity to experience a ride-along with an excavator operator.”
A dad of three, daughter Kinxton and step-kids Kohen and Hope, Beajai values the opportunities mining can bring for him and his family.
“The lifestyle roster, five on four off, allows me to be home, enjoy time with kids and keep on top of their sporting commitments,” Beajai said.
“It also provides greater opportunities for me in my career and financially.”
Mt Arthur Production Manager John Hamson helped launch the MASITE program, an initiative designed to assist Aboriginal people gain employment and progress their career with Thiess.
“I’m proud to be part of a team that openly embraces and supports Aboriginal participation in the workplace,” John said.
“The 12-month MASITE program provides a range of development opportunities and will help guide and support trainees in securing fulltime employment within the industry.”
