Thiess continues to honour legacy with Tori Cowburn Scholarship

Thiess is proud to announce Tracey Lambert as the second recipient of the Tori Cowburn Scholarship.

Thiess established the scholarship in 2024 to honour their employee Tori Cowburn and her contributions to the team and the Hunter Valley community, following her tragic passing in the 2023 Hunter Valley bus tragedy in Greta. Awarded annually, the scholarship supports female Hunter Valley residents who are studying a mining-related discipline at university.

Thiess Group Executive – Australia East Rae O’Brien said: “We were pleased to see such a strong response to the scholarship this year, reflecting the depth of talent across the Hunter Valley. This scholarship creates opportunities for women pursuing careers in mining, while honouring Tori’s legacy and the meaningful impact she had on our people.

“We congratulate Tracey and look forward to supporting her continued growth at Mount Pleasant Operation.”

Tracey, a Muswellbrook local, is in her first year of a Bachelor of Accounting at the University of New England. She also works full-time as an Administration Officer and is a valued member of Thiess’ Mount Pleasant Operation Finance and Administration team.

Tracey said, “I have a real passion for problem solving and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps large-scale operations running. It feels bittersweet to receive this scholarship and I’m honoured by the opportunity. With Tori also having worked in the administration space, I hope to make both Tori’s family and the team proud.”

The scholarship will provide Tracey with financial support, helping to fund her part-time study while she continues to gain hands-on experience in the mining industry at Mount Pleasant Operation.
