Building connections: Port Hedland Clontarf Academy visit
Thiess continues to support the work of the Clontarf Foundation, which partners with schools and communities to develop Indigenous youth through ‘Clontarf academies’ that operate across Australia.
Thiess focuses its efforts on building relationships between academies and our projects through:
- meeting and connecting with local Clontarf academies
- hosting site visits
- providing opportunities for work experience, traineeships, and apprenticeships
- participating in sport and award events
- engaging students at employment forums.
Recently, Thiess welcomed 11 students from the Port Hedland Clontarf Academy to the Thiess Rebuild Facility – Darra.
The visit gave the students an inside look at how the Darra team rebuild and maintain components from the industry’s largest mining equipment, while hearing first-hand about the diverse career opportunities available at Thiess.
It was also an opportunity for the students to share their stories and aspirations, connecting their Clontarf journeys with real-world pathways in the resources sector.
A big thank you to the Asset Services Team – Ryan Kirkwood, David Dickin, Ben Guerra and Joel Richards for hosting the students.
David shared “It was great to interact with the students during the site visit. Many of them had completed school-based traineeships, so seeing the tools and equipment up close helped connect what they’ve learned, to real-world applications. It was great to see their curiosity and confidence in action.”
