Overview
Thiess has returned to Central Kalimantan under a life‑of‑mine contract to deliver mining, rehabilitation and port management services for PT Kapuas Tunggal Persada (KTP) and PT Global Bara Mandiri (GBM). The eight‑year contract, commencing in July 2022, represents A$1.7 billion in revenue and marks a significant long‑term commitment to the region
Our commitment to safety, health and well-being, with an emphasis on fatigue management, will be critical throughout this project.
Across the adjacent KTP and GBM mines, Thiess provides complete turnkey operations, including mine design and planning, drill and blast, overburden removal, load and haul, asset maintenance and management, haul road maintenance, water management, rehabilitation and port operations.
Safety, health and wellbeing remain central to Thiess’ approach, with a strong emphasis on fatigue management and operational discipline as the project scales over its life.
Aligned with Thiess’ commitment to sustainable mining, the team will continue implementing environmental initiatives such as solar power support for site facilities, waste‑oil recycling for blasting processes, and domestic wastewater recycling for broader project use. These efforts complement the client’s shared focus on responsible mining practices and industry‑leading rehabilitation.
Diversity, inclusion and community benefit remain core priorities. Thiess has established a female operator training program and is creating opportunities for people with disabilities to enter the mining workforce. The project is expected to contribute to revitalising the local economy in Kapuas Regency by increasing business activity and supporting opportunities for local suppliers and communities
