Thiess secures two-year mining services agreement with Yilgarn Iron

We have secured a two-year, A$170 million contract extension with Emerald Resources at the Okvau Gold Mine in Cambodia, through our operating company MACA.

The extension will see MACA continue providing mining services at Okvau through to 2030, including mine development, drill and blast, overburden and ore mining, and associated mining support services.

MACA secured the original mining contract at Okvau in 2020 and has since worked closely with Emerald Resources to support the development and operation of Cambodia’s first large-scale gold mine.

Since production began, Okvau has produced more than 500,000 ounces of gold, supported by a strong focus on safe and efficient operations and developing local workforce capability.

Thiess Group Executive - Australia West David Greig said the extension reflected the strength of the long-standing relationship between Emerald Resources and MACA.

“From early development and construction through to start-up and steady-state production, MACA has worked closely with Emerald to support the successful development of the Okvau operation,” David said.

“Okvau demonstrates the important role mining can play in creating long-term employment opportunities, developing local capability and contributing to regional communities. We’re proud to continue supporting Emerald’s operations in Cambodia.”

Thiess Group Executive Chair and CEO Michael Wright said the extension further strengthened our presence in the gold and metals sectors.

“This extension reflects Emerald’s continued confidence in MACA and recognises the results our teams have achieved at Okvau,” Michael said.

“It also demonstrates how we support our operating companies to deliver long-term value for clients and pursue sustainable growth across commodities and geographies.”
