Thiess partners with Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue

Thiess is proud to partner with the Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue, showcasing our commitment to create lasting value in the communities we live and work in.

Already a significant contributor to Dialogue projects and events such as the School Mine Tours Program and annual community forums, the membership formalises the relationship and will see our role extend to other initiatives.
Speaking at a recent Dialogue and Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce breakfast, NSW Operations Manager Heather Parry said, “Thiess has been operating in the Hunter Valley for more than 25 years delivering social and economic benefits to the region in the form of employment, training and local procurement.”
“Our commitment to the region goes far beyond contract requirements to look at ways we can create sustainable opportunities and mutually beneficial relationships for the local people, businesses and industries.”
Drawing together local miners, community and business leaders, environmental groups and residents, the Dialogue seeks to bring the mining industry and local community together to identify and address community priorities and challenges.
Thiess Social Performance Manager Anthea Craig understands the significance of the partnership and benefits it will deliver for the Dialogue, Thiess and most importantly the local community.
“Quality communication, early notification and managing community expectations are essential to delivering successful projects,” Anthea said.
“The Dialogue creates opportunities for this to occur in a framework that allows all stakeholders to share their concerns, issues and expectations and then hopefully put programs and structures in place that address them constructively.”
In formalising its partnership with the Dialogue, Thiess joins existing Dialogue partners Bengalla Mining Company, BHP, Glencore, MACH Energy, Malabar Coal, Muswellbrook Coal Company, Peabody Energy, the Bloomfield Group and Yancoal.
