2026 Thiess Mining Industry Experience Day

Students took part in hands-on activities and explored career pathways across mining, including autonomy, surveying, drill and blast, coal handling and preparation plant, maintenance and production. Thiess team members and site-based subject matter experts shared practical insights into modern mining operations.

Each career area now links to Thiess Future Talent programs, including apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities. The experience helped students connect with Thiess employees and understand what a future career with Thiess could look like.

The program strengthened students’ understanding of available pathways and helped build confidence for future interviews.

The recent Clontarf Camp at Lake Vermont marked the next stage of the program. Selected Year 9 and 10 students can return for an immersive site-based experience in Years 11 and 12.

The camp showed students how the skills, technologies and pathways introduced at the Hub apply in an operating environment. It also gave them more opportunities to connect with Thiess team members.

This initiative supports Thiess’ commitment to creating meaningful employment pathways for young people and strengthening opportunities with local and Indigenous communities.
