Thiess engineers share knowledge inspire students
Our Thiess engineers in Mongolia shared their experiences and insights to inspire and support mining college students at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.
Engineer Superintendent, Zolboobayar Ulziisaikhan, and Senior Mining Engineer, Nyamdorj Purevdagva, visited the Ulaanbaatar-based mining school, delivering presentations about their Thiess careers and development path to professors and students.
During the session, the engineers talked about Thiess’ 15-years in Mongolia, detailing our projects and sharing information about Thiess’ graduate student scholarship program. Zolboobayar and Nyamdorj were well placed to talk with the students having joined Thiess during their graduate years as recipients of Thiess graduate student scholarship. The pair have been with Thiess now for more than a decade. The audience enjoyed the duos’ speeches, both of whom were once also students at the same school.
“I have been working for this fantastic organisation for 12 years. I was part of the team that recently completed C2S declines project in South Gobi Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi copper mine. After joining Thiess (previously Leighton), I had worked in Hong Kong, Indonesia, India and Mongolia and gained significant, vital experience.
“It is a great opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with students from Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where I completed my bachelor’s degree of Mining Engineering.
“It was a pleasure to support and encourage future engineers hoping that my presentation brought them something new from the industry.”
“I have been working at C2S decline project at Oyu Tolgoi and UHG coal project for about 12 years. “I joined Thiess as a graduate student and gained handful of experience during all those years.
“It was a pleasure to share my experience with young fellows. I hope for more opportunities would be created for the Mongolian youth so that they could grow and benefit.”
