Case study: Thiess facilities lighten up with energy efficient LEDs
In 2022 Thiess’ Ulaanbaatar warehouse in Mongolia began replacing all 28 light fixtures in the main warehouse and 138 lights in the office area with LEDs.
The wiring was also upgraded to provide more control over the individual lights, allowing the team to only use lights where needed, reducing electricity consumption in unused areas. The team estimates they are now saving 23,616 kWh per year or around 21 tCO2e. The new LEDs also produce more lumens, meaning the workshop and office are brighter with less power.
Thiess' Darra workshop in Queensland, Australia also implemented a similar initiative, replacing lights with LEDs over four years. The replacement work was completed mid-2022, saving approximately 74.5 tCO2e per year.
