Thiess Group strengthens sustainability performance and accelerates future-ready growth in 2025

The Thiess Group has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting a year of strong performance, meaningful sustainability progress and continued momentum in portfolio diversification.

Thiess Group Executive Chair and CEO Michael Wright said the progress achieved in 2025 demonstrates the power of the Group’s people, partnerships and disciplined strategy.

“2025 was a year of focus and momentum – delivering significant improvements in operational performance, with positive safety and commercial outcomes, creating value for our clients, people, shareholders and communities. We accelerated the diversification of our portfolio, expanding into the commodities and services that support the energy transition - facilitating increased business resilience and sustainable growth,” he said.

“We continued to advance our decarbonisation efforts - reducing our Scope 1 emissions by 24% and Scope 2 emissions by 31% compared to 2024, and increasing our use of renewable energy to comprise 30% of our total consumption. We remain focused on working towards our emissions reduction goals.”

The Group continued to advance its diversification strategy to support the global energy transition, while also delivering safe, reliable and responsible services for its metallurgical and thermal coal clients. With thermal coal now reduced to 26% of revenue, the Group remains on track to meet its target of less than 25% by 2027. At the same time, it acknowledges thermal coal’s ongoing role in energy security and business performance and is committed to responsibly supporting thermal coal clients during the global energy transition.

There was meaningful improvement in social outcomes – with female workforce representation rising to 20.1%, Indigenous participation increasing across MACA and RTL, and continued investment in community partnerships across the Group’s regions of operations.

Thiess Group Executive – Commercial, Strategy & Sustainability Mark Lynch, noted strong progress in our commitment to deliver on our sustainability strategy: “The 2025 Sustainability Report reflects our commitment to delivering sustainable value through ESG-informed leadership, operational strength and commercial agility. It reflects how sustainability is embedded in our business and decision-making. I thank our people, clients and partners for their continued support as we work together to deliver lasting, sustainable change.”
