Thiess and suppliers raise cancer awareness to new heights at Lake Vermont

Thiess’ Lake Vermont CHPP’s major shutdown this month is also the focus of Thiess’ continuing cancer awareness campaign.

Thiess and suppliers raise cancer awareness to new heights at Lake Vermont

With collaborating key suppliers Aury Australia, Elastomers Australia, Freo Group, and client Jellinbah Group, the massive CHPP screen and new centrifuge will be painted blue and pink, then installed in the wash plant on 15 February. The unmistakable colours will stand to remind staff and visitors of the importance of breast and prostate cancer awareness and personal prevention action.

The initiative is part of local fundraising and awareness for the Breast and Prostate Cancer Association Qld Inc. On the day, employees and invited guests from the Association and breast cancer nurses from Emerald will witness the screens being lifted and installed, enjoy a barbecue and take the opportunity to meet and talk with the team and guests.

Thiess’ new pink PPE shirts in support of breast cancer awareness will also be introduced on 15 February, further brightening up the event.

Thiess Lake Vermont Project Manager Adam Schloss said this was a great collaborative community effort.

“Our workforce wanted to support a local initiative and we are very pleased at the way this has all come together,” Mr Schloss said.

“Continued health awareness is part of our core approach to the overall safety and health of our workforce and the community we work in.”

A number of site suppliers have donated generously to support the important work of the Breast and Prostate Cancer Association Qld Inc. that includes funding for specialist nurses, further professional education, emergency patient assistance, establishing committees and community education, supporting cancer care nurses and investing in research.
