Meet Selenge - Thiess' youngest 10-year-service awardee

Meet Selenge Jargalsaikhan – Thiess’ youngest 10-year-service awardee in our Mongolian team. Selenge joined Thiess as an account clerk after graduating university, progressing through to her current role as a certified accountant.

A fan of data and analysis and driving to the BTS’ hit, Butter, Selenge talks about her career so far and shares why she loves working at Thiess.

What are you responsible for in your current role now?

I’m in charge of management report submissions which means consolidating monthly results for our business units. I am also responsible for budgeting and forecasting to aid business planning.

What do you love about your role/your team?

I love the collaborative environment we have and the positive attitude helps our team to achieve success. Everyone in our team is cooperative and willing to help each other whenever possible.

What have you learnt in your time with Thiess?

One of the first lessons I leant when I started working at Thiess was to never stop learning. Adopting a learning attitude throughout my entire life has helped me grow personally and professionally.

What excites you about Thiess’ future or the mining and metals industry in general?

I’m excited to continue to grow with the business as a global organisation that operates in such a diverse market.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given and by whom?

I have received some of the best pieces of advice from my dad when I graduated university, prior to starting my career.

He told me to be clear and truthful - the clearer you are about what you want in life, the more likely you are to get it. He also reminded me that careers don’t come with instructions, I need to create my own pathway.

Fun Questions
What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and become a doctor - he was a great cardiac surgeon. When I graduated high school, I decided that accounting is where my passion lie.

Are you a hunter or gatherer?

I would say that I’m a gatherer. I’m good at collecting, analysing, consolidating and interpreting data and diving into the detail. I’m a multi-tasker who can handle wide variety of day-to-day task in workplace and home too.

Best driving song and why?

I would recommend these top 5 songs in my deezer (similar to Spotify) and youtube list.

  • BTS – Butter
  • Nene – Haluun Maruujin (Mongolian artitst)
  • Ed Sheeran – Bad habits
  • The weekend – take my breath
  • Camelo - Kesi

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

Visiting Disneyland Resort with our son when the borders are open. Also visiting Teatro La Scala in Milano and Arena Di Verona is on my bucket list - I like listening to pop opera.

If you could go back in time – who would you meet and why?

I would like to meet my grandfather. He passed away when I was abroad and I didn’t have the chance to tell him how much I love him for the last time.
