Make her Mark: Yenie Artantie
With over 20 years of experience at Thiess, Yenie Artantie has built an impressive career defined by adaptability, and continuous learning. Starting in 2004 as an Export-Import Specialist, Yenie quickly expanded her expertise, handling the logistics of over-dimensional and overweight equipment such as diggers, dump trucks, and cranes. This role gave her a deep understanding of customs regulations, marine insurance, and operational lifting procedures.
Her journey took a turn in 2012 when she was invited to join the Plant Engineering group. Here, she focused on asset scheduling and disposals, an area that would become her specialty. Over the years, Yenie’s responsibilities grew in scope and impact, and she now serves as Senior Supervisor Planning, where she identifies and manages assets for disposal. Last year, under her leadership, the Indonesia Disposal Team achieved significant results, a milestone that stands out as one of her proudest achievements.
Yenie’s success is built on a strong foundation of essential skills, communication, trustworthiness, and a commitment to excellence. Despite not having a technical background as a mechanic, she has proactively bridged this gap by learning about equipment through inspection reports, discussions with mechanics, and even site visits. Her ability to adapt and her dedication to understanding market trends have been key to her continued success.
Beyond her technical skills, Yenie is passionate about cultural diversity and lifelong learning. As a student, she volunteered in remote areas of Southeast Maluku, raising awareness about law and cultural diversity. Her love for travel reflects this passion, allowing her to meet people from different cultures and broaden her perspective. Yenie also aspires to see a peaceful world, a value that continues to guide her personal and professional journey.
When asked for her advice to young women entering the field, Yenie emphasises the importance of observing and learning from others. "The mining and engineering fields are dominated by men, so extra effort is needed to stand out. You must continuously upgrade yourself and be smart to gain the respect and attention of others," she says.
Yenie Artantie is a remarkable example of making your mark at Thiess, not only through her professional achievements but also through her unwavering commitment to growth, learning, and cultural understanding.
