Our scholarships reward excellence, recognise potential and assist those who are passionate about their studies and need financial support.
Scholarship students are also given the opportunity to be a part of our Vacation Program, gaining industry experience and networking opportunities.
Thiess offers scholarships across:
- Surveying
- Mining or Geotechnical Engineering
- Women in Engineering
- First Nations (multiple disciplines)

Are you a current full-time, undergraduate mining engineering or surveying student:
- able to maintain a GPA of 4.5 or higher?
- available to complete a 12-week vacation work placement with Thiess (before graduating)?
- committed to joining Thiess as part of our Graduate Program?
- eligible to work in Australia?
#Eligibility criteria: women in engineering
Are you a current full-time, undergraduate engineering student in your second year (or later) studying:
- Mining engineering
- Civil engineering
- Geotechnical engineering
- Mechanical or electrical engineering
- Mechatronics engineering
Are you:
- Able to maintain a GPA of 4.5 or higher?
- Available to complete a 12-week vacation work placement with Thiess (before graduating)?
- Committed to joining Thiess as part of our Graduate Program?
- Eligible to work in Australia?
- Able to demonstrate commitment to Thiess’ shared group principles of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery?
#Eligibility criteria: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
Are you a current full-time, undergraduate student in your second year (or later) studying:
- Engineering (mining, mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, civil or geotechnical)
- Surveying
- Geology
- Health and safety
- Accounting
Are you:
- Able to maintain a GPA of 4.5 or higher?
- Available to complete a 12-week vacation work placement with Thiess (before graduating)?
- Committed to joining Thiess as part of our Graduate Program?
- Eligible to work in Australia?
- Able to demonstrate commitment to Thiess’ shared group principles of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery?
#Benefits
Thiess’ scholarship program includes:
- Financial support for the duration of studies up to a maximum amount (subject to successful completion of a semester)
- Vacation placement at a Thiess project or office (depending on availability and discipline)
- Opportunity to secure a permanent position as part of Thiess’ Graduate Program

Completion of our online application, including evidence of study
- Online aptitude testing

- Formal interview with a panel
- Reference checking
