Making their Mark: Sodoo and Ninjin

“Overall, my career path reflects a journey of learning and growth, which are drivers for me personally and professionally. What I really enjoy about my role is that it combines challenging tasks within a work environment that is supportive while encouraging innovation and continuous improvement. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me”.

Across Thiess, we continue to grow and connect our global network of women who have a diversity of roles and work experiences.

This month we caught up with Ninjin and Sodoo from Mongolia. While Sodoo has worked at Thiess for eight years, Ninjin joined Thiess in April 2023.

Meet Sodoo
Sodoo is a Maintenance Planning Superintendent at the Ukhaa Khudag (UHG) mine and joined Thiess after graduating from university. Sodoo started her Thiess journey as a technical translator and was supported by Thiess to develop her skills and encouraged to explore various career paths.

Over the years, through personal effort and support from colleagues, she has progressed to where she is today. She says, “Being a Planning Superintendent has enabled me to apply my expertise in new ways, contributing significantly to strategic planning and project management. I have worked across two projects – UHG and Oyu Tolgoi (OT) which has provided both unique experiences to learn and develop in sometimes challenging contexts.”

Reflecting on her career so far, Sodoo has been grateful for the support, training and opportunities at Thiess. She says, “Overall, my career path—from Translator to Planning Superintendent—reflects a journey of learning and growth, which are drivers for me personally and professionally. What I really enjoy about my role is that it combines challenging tasks within a work environment that is supportive while encouraging innovation and continuous improvement. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me”.

Meet Ninjin

Ninjin is an Underground Bus Driver at the OT mine and says her love of driving began when she was a child. “When I was younger I used to drive my dad’s car around the block. I guess you could say I have been a motoring enthusiast for a long time!” she jokes.

Ninjin has always admired mechancially minded people and thought, "I want to be like them". I am now working at this great company and am grateful for the technical skills (multiskilled operator) I’ve developed here.

In addition to developing skills the team culture has been a big drawcard for her. Ninjin says, “Thiess is known for having friendly teams, listening to its employees and valuing people. When I was invited for an interview after submitting my application, I accepted the offer immediately, and knew it was the right decision.”

Ninjin is a people person and her work ethic and positive attitude hasn’t gone unnoticed. In her short time at Thiess, she has been awarded ‘Employee of the Month’ and received a certificate and bronze coin, to recognise her efforts. “I genuinely love working with my team and colleagues” Ninjin says. “I would like to acknowledge the ‘Red Team' which is led by Supervisor Burentuguldur, and supported by five exceptional leads. I’m proud to be part of this team”.
