#Thiesscommunity gets active in the Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley Community Update

Our people from Mt Owen, Mt Arthur and Mount Pleasant sites combined to support local initiatives and events, in an effort to help to make a difference in the communities we live and work in.
Totem Skateboarding Workshops
Thiess’ Mount Pleasant team are helping create lasting value in the Upper Hunter Valley community by empowering and engaging local youth.
Our Mount Pleasant team partnered with Upper Hunter Community Services to support the delivery of Totem Skateboarding-Scooter, BMX and Skate workshops in the Muswellbrook Shire.
The workshops were designed to empower young people and help them develop self-esteem, self-image and positivity in an inclusive environment.
Participants were encouraged to interact with their peers, develop new skills and adopt an active lifestyle.
Some terrific airs were displayed and Thiess teammates were smart enough to leave the tricks to the kids!

Singleton Mail Run
Our Thiess cyclists have again delivered, helping to raise more than $44,000 for Singleton Family Support Services as part of the Hunter Valley’s annual Mail Run Charity Bike Ride.
Our team joined community cyclists to pedal a collective 1200 kilometres through the Singleton countryside. The peloton was ably supported by Thiess volunteers who lined the streets, manned drink stops and cheered riders along the course.
The popular event, inspired by original organiser Ken Dreaper’s childhood mail route, raised funds to help local families through programs that build confidence and empower positive, independent decision making.

Mount Arthur Family Day
Thiess families were given a taste of daily mining operations at Mt Arthur Coal as part of BHP’s annual Family Fun Day.
Our Mt Arthur team and their loved ones joined BHP as it opened the doors of its Upper Hunter Valley mine to more than 2,500 workers’ family members.
Employees treated their loved ones to mine site tours, hosted equipment displays and interacted with a range of simulation exhibits mirroring day-to-day operations.
Thiess proudly celebrated its history in the region by displaying a historic 1921 International Harvester Titan and 992K Loader Engine.
