Shankar Gopalan

Shankar Gopalan brings more than 30 years' international business experience to the role of Thiess Group Executive - North America, Safety & Technical Services.

A strong strategic and operational leader, Shankar has worked in various operational, technical engineering and strategic roles in the resources sector across Australia, North America, the Middle East and Asia. His success as a global leader is derived from his leadership style focused on inclusion, empathy, and accountability. He is passionate about coaching and mentoring teams to achieve greater results.

Shankar is responsible for leading Thiess’ operations and strategic growth agenda in our emerging market of North America across US & Canada. Importantly, he is also accountable for ensuring we maintain our strong focus on our people's health, safety, and wellbeing, and delivering technical and engineering excellence across our global operations. Prior to this he led the strategy & sustainability corporate functions and had the responsibility of integrating our PYBAR underground operations under the Thiess banner.

Shankar holds an Executive MBA from the IE University in Spain and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has also completed a CPD Certification - Oxford Climate Emergency Program with the University of Oxford and Non-Executive Directors
