b'All kinds of comfortBack in the early days of Thiess, acquiring any sort of equipment was cause for excitement. But they couldnt exactly be choosy back then. Manual gears, deafening diesel engines, hard seats and no power steering just came with the territory. Exposure to the elements was commonplace, and the best you could really hope for was an umbrella rigged up to the back of your seat. Not that the boys ever minded it, but it does make you wonder what theyd make of todays equipmentnot just the power, but the sheer luxury. Were talking air-conditioned cabins, ergonomic (and heated!) seats to sink into after a twenty-four-step climb, and a stereo to tune into a podcast or play your favourite music. Then theres the GPS to help run the course, or being able to call the workshop mid-drive about a check-up for a wheel thats running hot. Theyd surely be impressed with all the cameras to help guide the way, but maybe Excavation work for Luna Parknot the sensors capturing real-time operating data in place of trial and error to keep Brisbane, home to the famousthe fleet in good nick. Maybe they wouldnt like all the non-human interventions, but Cloudland Dance Hall, Bowen surely theyd be sold on those air-conditioned cabs! Hills, 1939. 12'
