How can I get a job in mining?
Thiess recruits people from a range of backgrounds and is always looking for suitable candidates to fill roles within the business. We class applications in three ways; Trainees, Cross-skilled and Experienced.
Experienced people have a minimum of 12 months experience in mining and usually possess a number of coal competencies.
Trainees are those people who do not have any formal experience in mining or related industries but want to get started in a mining career.
Cross-Skilled people are from a variety of industries which may include farming, construction, maintenance or other similar industries. These people have existing skills and knowledge but lack formal mining experience and require minimal training to get up to speed with mining operations.
Thiess recruits throughout the year and all of our current vacancies are listed on the careers section of our website. Trainee recruitment occurs periodically throughout the year, usually around twice per annum. For Trainee applicants, we generally look for a stable work history and prefer to employ people who reside in or close to the region in which we operate.
When is the next mining traineeship/recruitment intake?
These roles are dependent on the needs of the business and occur periodically throughout the year. Keep an eye on the careers section of our website for upcoming opportunities. Even better, register with a job alert and Thiess will email you with suitable opportunities when they are released.
Should I do a medical or coal board induction before I apply for a MINING job?

If you are progressed through the recruitment process, Thiess will require you to complete a specific pre-employment medical with a Thiess approved provider. We will also take care of your inductions once you commence employment with us at Thiess.
